Steven Liddle
Steven grew up in the Outer Hebrides, where the exposure to dramatic scenery and the elements established a love of ecological process and how this is affected by historical management, geology and the environment. Whilst studying forestry at Aberdeen University Steven completed four seasons as a Ghillie helping relate the world of study to the practicalities of land management, which proved invaluable in being able to relate and communicate with all comers.
Teamwork with other land based professionals is important to Greenbeard and strong working relationships with other likeminded professionals in the fields of Ecology, Land Management, Road Construction, Harvesting and Groundworks, brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to all projects undertaken.
Stuart Blackhall
Stuart Blackhall is Greenbeard Forestry’s most recent recruit, coming direct from his role in forestry grants assurance and audit with Scottish Forestry. Prior to that, he’d spent 25 years in private sector forest management throughout Scotland. Steve and Stuart go back a few years, having worked well together previously.
Stuart’s interest in forestry evolved from growing up in Highland Perthshire and learning about some of the challenges and issues surrounding rural land-use. He gained a BSc (Honours) in Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Economy at Edinburgh University, followed by a Masters in Forest Management from Aberdeen University in the early 1990s. These led to a diverse and ongoing forestry career practising ecological and silvicultural principles, applied in the context of a changing climate, resource depletion and biodiversity loss, and a recognition of the importance of sustainable practices and a commitment to deliver value for money, economic viability and the best quality outcomes to customers.

With a degree in Geography and a Master’s in Forestry, I began my career as a Forest Manager before specialising in GIS mapping.
I now focus on producing clear, reliable spatial data to support sustainable woodland management and planning.
I enjoy combining technical skills with a strong understanding of the natural environment.
Outside of work, life is busy with two young children, and when time allows I enjoy gardening, cycling and wild swimming.
